The belief that the Government ultimately derives its power from the people forms the essence of a democracy. Frustrated with the ideas of absolutism and dictatorship, people longed for a system based on the sovereignty of the masses. True or pure democracy accords to the most fundamental and basic idea of democracy harping on the notion of involvement of the people in the direct exercise of political authority. Herein, people decide on policy initiatives directly. There is direct involvement and it was justified on the ground that each person is in a position to best represent his own interest.
